• Xenforo forums over the past few months have been seeing spam posts from existing user accounts. Bots hitting forums using lists of emails/passwords leaked elsewhere. We strongly recommend that all users change their password ASAP.

Concerned, please advise.

@Freya , after posting the above, I can see the edit tab being available.
I did change a "no" to an "Inherit permissions" on this forum where it looked wrong so maybe that fixed it. The permissions and settings thing has never been my forte. I once censored ALL the words in chat while trying to uncensor the f word.

It seems to have fixed the issue with the edit tab (for now) as I've just checked and it's all back to the 10 min timeout. For now anyway....

You censored all the words in chat? Lol that must have gone down well. Though must have been one of the most peaceful nights for the chat mods

I censored allllll the words so the whole chat looked like this: ***** ***** ***** ****** ***** no matter who typed or what they typed and I didn't know I'd done it or that it was even possible so I thought everyone was suddenly trolling me, and even opening chat PM to troll me with private ***** ****** ***** messages. I freaked out and kicked everyone from chat. Then cried. Then fixed it. Then did soooooo much grovelling. Apparently I added an extra comma in the censor list that acted like some kind of wildcard. It was not a good night lol.

@Freya , I hear that these zombie spam bots are at it again but this time it's been ramped up with links to explicit and illegal sites.....

As a suggestion, how about locking down those affected accounts? Place them on read only until until the member gets round to changing their password. Inbox them (the member) about this and as an extra blanket of security, have staff screen posts for a set period of time until it feels it's ok to lift restrictions.

@Ash600 putting compromised accounts under moderation is an excellent idea and I don't know why I didn't think of it. Thank you! Off to spread the word to staff!
