Is there a way to clear "recent chats"?

I clicked on some users by mistake over a long period of time, and they just keep staying in "recent chats", even though we havent even chatted
Its taking up quite a bit of space on the user list

Sorry for the delay, but yes you can do that. Desktop: Click on the private chat that you want to dismiss. There should be a red circle with an X and clicking it will remove it from view.

In the mobile version, you can open the existing chat, and there should be a little right pointing arrow “>” and click that. It will show a menu with clear private chat as an option.

I just tried to clear my recent chats, but the users still won’t disappear.
Well darn. I was able to see what you are talking about on my mobile (Firefox, iOS) - I went to my laptop (win11, also FF) and closed a chat with the little X button (I was wrong about the red circle; it's just an X at the top right, or when you hover over it in the bar at the bottom). I then went back to my phone and refreshed there; the private chat in question was no longer showing. I did try to find something that would do the trick in mobile alone, but I have not found it yet.

Takeaway - if you can get on a laptop - that might be the quickest way. I would be surprised if you couldn't do it in the mobile version but it might be a refresh issue, or a limitation of the mobile client.

I used to have a laptop, but I got rid of it a few years ago.

I just had a thought, I tried this on my iPhone and it seems to be okay, although I didn’t do a full round of tests.

In your browser options there should be a setting that says, “request desktop site.” click on that and it should refresh the page after a moment. If not then manually refresh it and you should see the desktop version, which will be wonky on a phone screen but will also get the functionality to accomplish the task. Scroll to the bottom and sort of hold/tap on a chat tab. Then the X should be just to the right. HTH
