If I could reach up and hold a star for every time you've made me smile, the entire evening sky would be in the palm of my hand. -Unknown

It is only in the times of our greatest despair when the answers to some of life's most important questions come to light and make themselves known. -Scott Dills

One is never completely sure of the extent to which one loves another until the one which is loved is gone. -Scott Dills

She prayed -- it wasn't my religion;
She ate -- it wasn't what I ate;
She spoke -- it wasn't my language;
She dressed -- it wasn't what I wore;
She took my hand -- it wasn't the color of mine;
But when she laughed -- it was how I laughed;
And when she cried -- it was how I cried. -Unknown

I have nothing to say because there is nothing I can say that would describe how I feel as perfectly as you deserve it. -Unknown

...you should never let the sun set on tommorow before the sun rises today... -If I Am by Nine Days

This planet has -- or rather had -- a problem, which was this: most of the people living on it were unhappy for pretty much of the time. Many solutions were suggested for this problem, but most of these were largely concerned with the movements of small green pieces of paper, which is odd because on the whole it wasn't the small green pieces of paper that were unhappy. -Douglas Adams

I can give you nothing that has not already its origins within yourself. I can throw open no picture gallery but your own. I can help make your own world visible - that is all. -Hermann Hesse

I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favor to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all. -Ecclesiastes 9:11 (even though I am non-religious I still love this quote)

Not all those who wander are lost. -J.R.R. Tolkien

Don't walk in front of me, I may not follow. Don't walk behind me, I may not lead. Walk beside me and be my friend. -Albert Camus

Someone who finds your presence worth while
So when you are lonely remember this--
That there is someone, somewhere... thinking of you. -Unknown

A small addition to this fab thread of posts.....here's the motto I try to live by......it's from Jonathan Livingstone Seagulll....a great book...

"Argue for your limitations, and they become yours..."

i.e. tell yourself you can't do something and you never will be able to...be positive in the face of adversity and have faith....it's helped me out many a time!

THE LAND OF HAPPY: Have you been to The Land of Happy, Where everyone's happy all day, Where they joke and they sing Of the happiest things, And everything's jolly and gay? "There is something good in all seeming failures. You are not to see that now. Time will reveal it. Be patient."

I just thought these were funny....

Just one for now.

"We should be careful to get out of an experience only the wisdom that is in it - and stop there; lest we be like the cat that sits down on a hot stove-lid. She will never sit down on a hot stove-lid again - and that is well; but also she will never sit down on a cold one anymore."-Mark Twain

Kill them all

This sounds very Encouraging to me:

"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."
Edmund Burke (1729-97)

"Kill one man, and you are a murderer. Kill millions of men, and you are a conqueror. Kill them all, and you are a god."
Jean Rostand.

It sounds to me like Mr. Spirit is a little disturbed.

Here's a quote in time for Valentines' day:

Good quotes everyone. Blue you have quite a range, from RLS to Emo Phillips. I enjoyed both. I could really use the RLS quote right now. He lived where I live for a while and went to the same beach I went too. I feel his spirit saying hello sometimes. It's an honor.

These are my other favorites:

It takes courage to grow up and turn out to be who you really are. EE Cummings

Be who you are, and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.

I'll try to remember them. It does take courage to grow up to be who you really are.

hey i love all ur quotes!! i collect things like that (cos im weird)
heres some of mine!

This very remarkable man
Commends a most pratical plan
You can do what u want
If u dont think u cant
So dont think u cant think u can!

The old believe everything
The middle - aged suspect everything
The young know everything

Establishing goals is all right if u dont let them deprive u of interestin detours

Always leave the party when ur still havin a good time!

The great pleasure in life is doing what people say u cannot do

(Not sure if this fits but its true!)
'Peace on earth' was said. We sing it
And pay a million priests to bring it
After 2000 years of mass
We've got as far as poison gas.

Got more somewhere! lol
i love that one ummm .... do not think that she who seeks to comfort u now... that one its v v v cool!!!

Life is an opportunity, benefit from it.
Life is beauty, admire it.
Life is bliss, taste it.
Life is a dream, realize it.
Life is a challenge, meet it.
Life is a duty, complete it.
Life is a game, play it.
Life is a promise, fulfill it.
Life is sorrow, overcome it.
Life is a song, sing it.
Life is a struggle, accept it.
Life is a tragedy, confront it.
Life is an adventure, dare it.
Life is luck, make it.
Life is too precious, do not destroy it.
Life is life, fight for it.

Still I Rise

You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.

Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
'Cause I walk like I've got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.

Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I'll rise.

Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops,
Weakened by my soulful cries?

Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don't you take it awful hard
'Cause I laugh like I've got gold mines
Diggin' in my own backyard.

You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I'll rise.

Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I've got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?

Out of the huts of history's shame
I rise
Up from a past that's rooted in pain
I rise
I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.

Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that's wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise.
