Sometimes I forget my own advice.
So I had forgotten the priceless principle of the Half-Pie. That a half pie is better than a full pie. That if I get a full pie, then I will lose it--but if I get a half pie, then I get to keep it. That instead of friends, it's better to have acquaintances only.

Gradually I believe I am beginning to understand the perplexing statement made by a Buddhist monk who said "Paradise comes to you when you see NO difference between pain and joy.
When we see No difference between joy and pain, it's at that point that we reach Paradise." When I achieve that state of mind, I can become much more easily tolerant of whatever troubles bedevil me. To raise one's tolerance level is called Stoicism. The key is Stoicism.

What I have to keep doing is to increase my tolerance level or at least maintain it. Because from tolerance comes endurance. So even when people hurt me, I forgive. Because from tolerance comes forgiveness.

You hardest times often lead to the greatest moments of your life. Keep the faith. It will all be worth it in the end.

Optimism is a happiness magnet. If you stay positive good things and good people will be drawn to you.

When there is No hope, I have to create hope. And the way to create hope is by taking action. Because there is no hope when there is no action. So as soon as I take action then hope is created.

Buddhist lesson for today:
You have control over only three things in life---the thoughts you think--the images you visualize--and the action you take.

The other year I had a post where I had wondered what a Buddhist monk meant when he said that Joy and Pain are the same. Now I think I understand because I realize that by expecting troubles, then it becomes easy to accept them. Also to realize that the troubles are the payment for the blessings I have. At that point, the joy and pain blend together and become one.

There's a lot of similar ideas in Buddhism and Daoism, but in Daoism everything has to have its opposite. There is no day without night, there is no summer without winter, there is no joy without pain. I've come to appreciate this. On a trivial matter I play the piano and may think "I'm rubbish at this" etc. but if someone could stick a computer chip in my head that would make me an expert pianist would I want that? Of course not, because it's the constant flow between "I'm good at this" and "I'm rubbish at this" that makes it so important to me.

I've mentioned in other posts that I've had very few friends, but they've meant so much to me precisely because I had so few friends. If I'd always been popular maybe I would be better off but in a way I'm glad things were so shit for me because at least I can say that things are better now. Bad situations that can be dealt with are good, but I appreciate there are bad situations that are just bad and it's hard to deal with this unfairness in life.

Success does not come from what you do occasionally. It comes from what you do consistently.
Just about to go do my piano practice, because I will only succeed if I practice consistently.

Success is not measured in how many times we fall, but in how many times we rise from falling.
I'm not very good but I'm bound to improve!

The both of you have been a real inspiration to me on this site, and I hope things go well for you in the year ahead. Happy new year!
