My son. He has struggled with mental health on and off since he was a teenager and at 25 I still worry about him. It doesn't take much for his anxiety and depression to rear its head. I wouldn't want to do anything that might make it worse.

My daughter I honestly think would be ok. She is quite hard and unsentimental. I know she loves me and would be sad for a while but I really do think that she would end up shrugging her shoulders and put it behind her.

Well according to TV and films in the 21st Century we'll all have robots and flying cars... I'm still waiting and will be so disappointed if they lied to us! (After all I have no friends and family to look after me in my old age so I'm absolutely depending upon that cute anime looking robo-maid)

(The initial post said these could be silly but on a more serious note when you think what life was like 40 years ago, I do wonder what it'll be like 40 years in the future... probably shit I know, but hey who knows?)

I get reminded of the Benevolent Misanthrope thread here and some of the comments. To me, as bleak as some predictions were, they sounded downright optimist compared to my opinions.

I started that one, and while I think my predictions have some credence, I honestly hope with every fiber that I'm proven wrong. One of my resolutions for 2022 is to adopt a more positive outlook for the future.

A tall order, perhaps, but I guess it's worth a shot.

One of the issues is that the media gives us a negative image of the world, it's simply not a news-worthy story to say "hey the world is getting better!" So for example we know how much poverty there is in the world. But it's rarely pointed out that in 1966 50% of the world lived in extreme poverty, but in 2017 that figure was 9%. In most aspects the world is getting better, however global warming is an exception to this

Fair point, as your statistic makes clear. In some respects, conditions in our world (in general) HAVE gotten better. That said, the improvements are ultimately eclipsed by the fact the human race as a whole are living on severely borrowed time.

It’s refreshing to see that others agree. Existential depression is a huge problem for me

The biggest reason for me living is there is no one to take care of the cats when I am gone. Unfortunately they have an expected 10 more years before they are gone so I have to fight it through. Not that life is a struggle nowadays - it IS lonely but feels meaningless in spite of all the volunteering that I do. I have only one motive for living the cats and no other reason. Pretty sad I think. But the cats appreciate me feeding them. :)
