I don't mind if people stock up, but they don't need to buy everything so that others have none. So to me, yeah that's selfish and uncalled for.
But, the thing is, no one is really doing that. Yeah, okay, maybe there’s one guy out there who got his hands on a pallet of purell or something. But all it takes for the shelves to empty is for each individual person to take just a little more than usual.

Yeah, its nuts. San Francisco and neighborhoods are as close to totally shut down as possible. The effects of all these closings are likely to have much more dire effects then the virus itself. Businesses closed, livelihoods lost, unemployment and homeless soaring. And suicide soaring as people can't take care of themselves and family. Economic effects are likely to last much longer then the virus. There is just too much hysteria out there right now and not enough common sense.

The government here have now said that all but essential travel should stop and have advised people not to go out to bars, theatres, concerts etc. So pretty much all events have been cancelled due to it turning into a witch hunt. The fact that they haven't been outrightly banned from opening means that the venue's can't claim on their insurance. A big win for the fat cat insurance companies but a major loss for small businesses.

I've just taken my daughter shopping as the zoo where she works and lives is going into lockdown. She's been told that she won't be able to leave the site even to go food shopping. If she does leave she won't be allowed back on site. We went to a HUGE supermarket - not a single vegetable or piece of fruit, no bread, milk, eggs, pasta, rice, flour, tinned fruit or vegetables, soup, frozen vegetables, hot chocolate, tea..
She's going to have to live on dry breakfast cereal and Easter eggs 😂

that's terrible. we are fortunate we don't have to worry about food we have a big freezer and if power goes out we have 2 to 3 weeks dry/canned food ahead. not for this virus we always are this far ahead because we always stock up on sales. but i may have to wipe my butt with a steak we only have 1 month worth of tp lol..mike

Few things about the Covid 19. It's not a flu. It can spread very fast. It's very dangerous for people 60+ (and especially 80+). For people up to 30-40 years it's pretty harmless but you can still infect a lot of people even if you don't have any symptoms. Everyone should wear some kind of face mask, even improvised ones. Everything is better than nothing. You should avoid every place with more people. The less human contact the better. If you can, stay home. Order everything you can online. The biggest problem is that about 20% infected need hospital care. And like 8% or so need intensive care. That pretty much means a collapse of hospitals because there's not many countries who have so many empty capacities for such cases. This is serious. Don't underestimate it.

i found the hopital statistics to be much lower. yes this coronavirus should be taken seriously, but people should not panic. just follow guidelines. people should not rely on unofficial sources for their information like news or internet including forums. for accurate information go to your official government sites and the WHO. this is a time for caution not fear...mike

I don't have informations from any forums but mostly from a Twitter. From a very good czech journalist who is delivering news about the coronavirus for weeks. Look at Italy. There's a lot of old people infected and the hospital care collapsed there pretty much. At least in the northern Italy where is the biggest problem with the Covid 19. In the last days there's over 300 deaths every day. USA made a huge mistake. The same mistake as Italy or Spain for example. They underestimated the disease. Yesterday i saw a picture of beach full of people in Florida. That's madness. I don't live in USA but my opinion is there will be tens of thousands of deaths if government and people won't act responsibly. A lot of people doesn't realize how dangerous this is. That's a fact. This is not fun. Seriously.

The issue with statistics is that there are people all over the place that have not been tested. In many countries they're telling you "don't come here, we're not going to test you anyway. stay home and take care of yourself unless you are at the point of needing hospitalization". Therefore saying that, say, 20% of people are going to need hospitalization is utter shite. That simply does not account for the thousands and thousands of people who are home - taking care of themselves - sucking it up and doing what they need to do to get better.

I think the 20% is from China. They made a HUGE number of tests there. They found pretty much everyone who had the virus. That's the baseline of the stats. 20% needs hospital care, about 8% needs intensive care and the death rate is around 2%. It's different in other countries of course. But that's pretty much affected by the way how the particular country fight with it. Some countries are more succesfull than others.
