So many of mine will definitely be rural, I am a country boy:

"Useless as tits on a bull.". Bulls don't give milk.

"Butter my butt and call me a biscuit". I just happen to like having my ass slathered with butter...for some odd reason. LOL Actually it means that surprises me.

"That dog just don't hunt.". It will not work out, whatever you are planning.

"Well, bless your heart.". That can be heartfelt and hoping for someone, but typically it means what a maroon if you are Bugs Bunny.

"Fixin' to.". I about to or getting ready to do something.

"Sharp as a bowling ball.". I loved the old cartoon when Foghorn Leghorn used it.

^ Love all of those KM, some of them I heard before, but some are new to me.

Some of my fave expressions are:

- Up shit creek without a paddle

Fave words is hard, cos there are just SO MANY that I love lol.
- Abstraction, Abominable, Alacrity, Angelic, Asea, Blissful, Chaotic, Cheddarhead, Chucklehead, Curious, Denomination, Dipshit, Dipstick, Dramatic, Eccentric, Endless, Ersatz, Elegance, Enchanted, Enigmatic, Fabulous, Fantastic, Fiasco, Flail, Flapdoodle, Flopper, Flounder, Flourish, Fritz, Fuddle, Fugly, Futz, Fuzzle, Gaggle, Glamorization, Glitch, Hornswoggle, Hullaballoo, Imbecile, Impressive, Infinite, Jute, Juxtaposition, Kinetic, Laconic, Lollapalooza, Magical, Magnanimous, Magnetic, Magnificent, Moronic, Mysterious, Nincompoop, Nomadic, Ostrich, Ornament, Penultimate, Plop, Prism, Putz, Pyramid, Quantum, Quizzical, Ragtag, Ritz, Ritzy, Schmuck, Sensational, Splendid, Swanky, Swell, Tallywag, Toxic, Triangle, Twerp, Twit, Undulation, Umbrella, Vibrant, Vociferous, Wamble, Wample, Whippersnapper, Wimple, Whomp, Wompus, Xenophile, Yestermonth, Yesterweek, Yesteryear, Zinger, Zazzy.

I really hate the phrase "It is what it is." So dumb, and people always use that as an excuse to just say you have to be okay with the way things are because that's how they've always been. Similar to the way my mom used to use "C'est la vie" ("That's life" in French.) Not only do I just hate those phrases as a whole, but "c'est la vie" always felt like it was used to be dismissive of my feelings, and "it is what it is" was being said repeatedly by a guy who was bullying me in high school.

Thinking of some of my mothers phrases.

A lick and a promise (when you just straighten up the house, not a full cleaning).

Heavens to Betsy.
Too many cooks spoil the brew.
Well, butter my biscuit.
Don't count your chickens before they're hatched.
A little bird told me.
Burning the candle at both ends.
Bite the bullet.
Get down and dirty.
You're the cats meow.
Who does she think she is, the queen of sheeba?
Dressed to the nines.
Can't rub two nickles together.

When we were being lazy, "do you think youre here for show?"

My favorite of hers, "things will look better in the morning."

Other ones along the same lines, weather related...

"Raining like a cow pissin' on a flat rock.".

"It was a gully washer.".

One that has come back in 1993 and still an internet meme is:

"I'm your huckleberry.". With the feud between Ringo and Holliday in Tombstone it was more of an acceptance to a gunfight, but when I was young many of the old farmers my grandfather's age and thereabouts used it at times. Literally it is I am the person you are looking for.

"That fella needs to be taken out and stump whopped.". Creek slung works also. Neither is anything violent both mean that someone is rank and stank needing a hard washing. Both are terms about cleaning chitlins. I have done that all my life. Cleaning them is like doing the chore in a recently used outhouse, literally. LOL

I favor “neo” both as a prefix and a standalone name. Neon especially captures my attention, e.g., neon colors, neon lights, as befits its vibrant glow.

I find the “starving African children” card being used a means to virtue signal or guilt-trip well fed children into eating more food to be obnoxious. If you care so much about starving African children, why are you still here feeding me?

*eye roll*

"Either everyone matters or no one matters." I'm not sure where this originated, but it's Harry Bosch's quote from the books (never watched the TV series).

As for unpleasant and annoying sayings and words, AI has introduced a good few (even though it's parroting back human text). I particularly don't like when articles say things like "Let's get into it," "Let's dive in," "Why it matters," and other unnecessary, patronizing filler or AI slop.
