A book about CBT isn't necessarily free (unless you can get it from a public library), but it's pretty low cost.

One of the most frequently recommended CBT books for depression is this:

Mind Over Mood, Second Edition: Change How You Feel by Changing the Way You Think
Dennis Greenberger, Christine A. Padesky

I think some members have mentioned that chat GPT has a therapy option. I guess you could also ask it about free therapy resources too.

Okay , thankyou
I want to ask two questions , first , is performing cbt exercises by myself through a book legal and okay ? Like , would it be that I am trying to be my own doctor or something ?
Also , I understand why you and inastorm shared these book resources , what I actually meant was like talk therapy ( which now I should have mentioned in my post yes )

I don't have expertise on the laws in India, or anywhere, but presumably if that book is either for sale or available in a library, it would be perfectly legal.

As far as it being ok...I don't know of any cases where someone has been harmed as a result of using CBT techniques from the book, and there seem to be a lot of cases where people say the book helps.

I don't know of there being any free talk therapy resources in India.

Talk therapy is often quite expensive, so unless you're in a country with extensive free medical care, I doubt in would be available.

Even in countries like the UK, you might have to wait years to see a therapist through the NHS.

I think the general culture in the West for quite a long time, has been the 'self help' market. Where there is hundreds of books out there. CBT and mindfulness are good examples of this. A therapist is helpful as it depends on what your wanting the 'help' for. Someone who is feeling defected may struggle to read through a book on a subject and take in the information, where they need a therapist to guide them.

So to answer your questions - yes you can use books and resources from where ever to 'help yourself' and be your own therapist, many people do, this is a good thing, but has some down sides to it.

You may have free services in india but I wouldnt know.

However, in the meantime if your wanting to use resources to help yourself, then go ahead. If your wanting resources to help other people, this is different, as you may need to have certain training to be able to set up your own business. It's fine if your not saying your a practising therapist. So, basically fine in your doing it for yourself, on yourself.

Get self help is a good resource of templates that you can print out. I've had therapists in the past, but I have also been my own therapist.

I understand , I think I am not really capable of helping myself so I wanted a professional but I understand that it's not really available for free.
Thanks
