Forest as therapy

Hi,

I don't know if this could help anyone here but I have discovered this therapy method for myself and I love it. Just enjoying the sound of the birds and the fresh air of nature. It's perfect for people who are very introverted and I love walking in the forest and just switching off. It's best when there's no one around

When I was young houses had large front porches. People would put rocking chairs out and sit on the porch for hours. Part of this was lack of air conditioning, but it was nice the just watch the cars go by and enjoy the trees and nature. My porch is small, but our neighborhood has lots of trees. We also have squirrels, bunnies, and birds to watch. Not to mentions the neighborhood cats. I spend time on my porch, fun time. Love

Went for an evening into night drive tonight through the forest near me. Saw lots of deer and at one point shut the truck off and the fireflies were everywhere. It was so nice, hopefully one day my dream of having a cabin in the woods will come true.
Fireflies are some of those critters I miss seeing like you used to see all the time. Bullfrogs, squirrel and horned toads are others. I see more squirrel in town than out in the country strange to say. LOL

Saturday last I was fortunate to get out to a natural place and walk a short steep hike to a viewpoint. I breathed easier than I do when in town. You could see for miles out over forests and a huge river, with mountains off in the distance. Boulders and trees and small plants growing everywhere. It was hard to leave but great to know it's there, not so far away.

This is a thing. Connecting with the unpaved world is known to reduce stress and increase the general feeling of wellbeing. The Japanese have a word just for this activity. I don’t remember the Japanese pronunciation, but it translates literally as “Forest Bathing.”

BTW, I prefer the term, “unpaved” to “natural,” because the latter implicitly assumes that humans are somehow unnatural, which I dispute. I think the benefit of using “unpaved” to refer to outdoor, more diverse places is that it reminds us that we are in fact nature.
