Soothing music

I use Apple Music. There are many playlists on there that I find soothing. I'm listening to the lo-fi Jazz playlist right now and it's the perfect thing for dinner transitioning into winding down for the evening. The other playlists I find relaxing are in the "Chill" category, mostly electronic music but with a downtempo vibe. And then they have playlists for meditation and for different forms of yoga. I like to listen to those if I am having anxiety because it helps me slow down the tempo of my thoughts.

If you are looking for specific titles, One of my go-to albums for coping is "Kind of Blue" with Miles Davis and his band. The story of how this album was recorded and the impact it has had on modern music is amazing.

Kitaro (keyboardist) is pretty relaxing, but also new-agey which I know a lot of people don't like.

On youtube I like Chillhop Music and WorldHasPostRock for instrumental music.

Songs that I find uplifting:
Hate Me by Blue October
Rise Above This by Seether
Not Afraid by Eminem
Cut the Cord by Shinedown
Jenny by Nothing More
You by Candlebox
Into the Unknown by Panic! at the Disco (Don't judge, pls)
Beethoven's Ninth Symphony - The whole thing from beginning to end. I am partial to a performance in 1984 with the Berlin Philharmonic, conducted by Herbert von Karajan. When I finally sat down and listened to the whole thing it was a spiritual experience.

Sorry, probably more input than you wanted but music is the main thing that keeps me alive rn so yeah.

I love Kind of Blue. I bought the album probably two or three times including an HD mono version.

Thanks all. I'm curious and will listen to the suggestions when at home (in a coffee bar now). @LumberJack, don't worry, I am happy you sent a lot. I'm interested. For me as well, music is so important. It drags me through very difficult periods. I find it hard to post examples, because it is music in my own language that is most important to me. I love a Dutch version of Psalm 130 (out of the depths have I cried unto thee...). I also like Hayde Bluegrass Orchestra and Rhiannon Giddens, and Marley too, @JDot.

I like the sound of rain too @AvidFan , water textures and such in ambient/electronic music. There's great field recordings out there - While I don't experience depression - with anxiety there's still many ways to find calmness.

Hecq - Lost.
This song combines field recordings; rain with a strong ambient sound after a few minutes, though there's perhaps some undertones which could be interpreted as mourning, grief.

Lusine icl - Language Barrier (2007)
The entire album. One of my all time favourites even after having listened to 1100 ~ other albums in my collection. I always discover something new in this album.
I'll come back to this thread a bit later, thanks for opening it @Femke ! :)

I think the important thing is that with input from media (entertainment), like music or let's say watching a familiar movie, tv show that you don't feel distracted by other inputs. I've asked people this in real life, like... When is the last time you actually took the time and space to be in the zone with yourself while listening to only music?

For many it feels like: "Oh I could read a book, do a study, browse the internet and do mundane tasks while music is playing..." I think there's benefit in isolating the activity.
But I can understand that time is a limited resource too for like working/studying folk... It's a tough equation to balance out. (Hope I wasn't too off-topic :D )

It's unfortunate that when we feel a storm
We can roll ourselves over 'cause we're uncomfortable
Oh well, the devil makes us sin
But we like it when we're spinning in his grip

Love is like a sin, my love
For the ones that feel it the most
Look at her with her eyes like a flame
She will love you like a fly will never love you again
Oh, hmm

Same! I love Indian flute music and Bach's cello suites. I love the sound of the cello - I've heard it's the closest-sounding instrument to the human voice. It really resonates with me.
How fun. And that's a nice fact to know, about the cello. The sound of the flute is one of my favorites. I've always resonated with Indian music. I play around with the harmonium which has a strong presence in much of the Indian music I listen to but I love most of all of it, old and new.
