I got hired at a security guard job and I start on Monday. I got my security guard license since January 2024. What’s it’s like working as a security guard? I have to work at a mall as a security guard. How is it working as a security guard in a mall compared to a hospital or office? Have any of you worked as security guard before and what was it like. Security guard is one of the jobs that won’t disqualify anyone with mental health issues or diagnosis unlike law enforcement police officer or military and prison guard jobs or fbi and nsa and cia jobs which disqualifies people with mental health diagnosis and issues since they ask for hospital records. I have no interest in being a cop or prison guard or military solider or I have no interest in joining the fbi, cia or nsa plus I don’t live in USA anymore since 2005.

Glad you found something. I have noticed that you had been working very hard to get a job. I've never worked as a security guard, but there's a guy I know who was. He did things like event security and watching data centers, as opposed to retail, so I really cannot answer your question. I did want to say congratulations though.

With any job, you have to figure out what your boss wants and doesn't want, and if you can do what your boss wants and don't do what you boss doesn't want, you'll probably get to keep your job.

With security, it may be harder for you boss to outright say what they want and don't want, so you'll have to pay attention and try to figure that out.

Generally you should do things, if not doing things would create a problem for your boss. Likewise, you should not do things that would cause your boss headaches.

So you wouldn't want to do things that would get your company sued, or that would get lots of complaints. You would want to do things like preventing major losses from the stores, or preventing serious risks to health and safety.

Generally you want to be conscientious, but not overzealous.

Thanks I been working just as a sign holder currently and mascot in summer which is getting over soon in August. In the winters I work as a snow shoveler. I had hard time finding a normal job because of Covid and anxiety and depression. Longest job gap I had was 18 months and shortest three weeks.

I know you are busy now that you have started working the new job. I was just wondering how it was going for you:)
Hello it was alright the first four days until my company got raided because the owner of my company was involved in fraud scandal so me and other security guards got laid off and the company shut down but I got paid at least. I have to look for another security guard job likely a reputable company. There is lot of corruption in the security guard industry in my province regarding fraud and sex crimes scandal. There was an owner of a security guard company charged with possession of child porn and his company worked at hospitals. But at least I still have my sign holder jobs as a second job and snow shoveling in the winters.

In a mall, you'll deal with a lot of foot traffic, shoplifters, and customer service issues. It's usually more fast-paced and involves interacting with the public frequently. Hospitals often have stricter protocols and may involve dealing with more emergencies. Offices tend to be quieter, focusing on monitoring and access control.
