I just checked reddit after coming home from the shop. Before I went, it looked like the meeting between Zelensky and Florida Man went surprisingly well. I come home to find out that Florida Man and Vance publically bullied and intimidated Zelensky. The leader of the victims of the worst crimes in europe since the days of Hitler and Stalin.
I can't watch the clip, I'm so horrified and furious. What little I've heard of it has completely ruined my day and my mood is in the gutter, and I I feel such dread for what we're currently watching and what might happen in the coming months as a result of this.
Zelensky and Ukraine have been subjected to so much trauma and evil. 10 years of a russian hybrid invasion and terrorism, 3 years of a full scale genocidal war of conquest conducted by russia, entire peaceful cities leveled with the ground and their populations starved, frozen and shelled to death, and now they're being treated like this by what was until recently an ally, for no conceivable reason other than pure sadism and tyrrany. How much horror can a society take? Already in 2014, they had been through enough. This horrific betrayal is one that will live in infamy for centuries, if not milennia.
I live in a society whose culture is largely americanized, and we feel very close to the US. I studied abroad there and felt a stronger connection to american society than I did to my own. To see them become an enemy and sink into incomprehensible, sadistic evil like this is just impossible to process. More and more people in europe consider americans traitors, and there is a growing movement to boycott them. And it's tragic because I LIVED there, I wanted to move there permanently, I've spent so much time watching american youtubers, movies, tv shows, to the point where I know English better than I do my own language.
I feel a lot of anxiety about what's going to happen to Ukraine now, and whether European countries are going to respond to this with proper condemnations, sanctions and expelling american ambassadors, or whether we're just going to let Ukraine be treated like this while playing nice to the american regime.
I haven't watched the video of what just happened, but even what I've heard of it from the reddit thread fills me with rage and fear for ukraine and europe's future, and I wish I didn't have empathy because I keep wondering what it's got to be like for Ukrainians to watch this after all they've been through, and Zelensky after years of this nightmare. The pain, the sense of betrayal, the utter loss of faith in humanity, has got to be unbearable, and I can't stop tapping into this pain.
When Zelensky tried to respond to their bullying, Florida Man actually told him "you're not allowed to talk". They demanded respect...That THEY should be respected. Not the people who've been giving their lives to protect their freedom, independence and Europe as a whole. They talked down to him like a slavemaster to his slave. The evil and horror of this is impossible to take in, and I hope I never see the full video. It'll be worse than any horror movie.
It used to look like a bigger war was possible, but unlikely. Now, as a result of The US's betrayal and descent into sadistic evil, it's looking more and more like we're headed towards a continental war, if not another world war. With our friends and "allies" on the side of the enemy. 70% of them chose this. The very society I felt closer to than my own country. It's impossible to enjoy anything these days. They'll never be forgiven for this. How could this possibly end well?
