Horrified by humanity

I just checked reddit after coming home from the shop. Before I went, it looked like the meeting between Zelensky and Florida Man went surprisingly well. I come home to find out that Florida Man and Vance publically bullied and intimidated Zelensky. The leader of the victims of the worst crimes in europe since the days of Hitler and Stalin.

I can't watch the clip, I'm so horrified and furious. What little I've heard of it has completely ruined my day and my mood is in the gutter, and I I feel such dread for what we're currently watching and what might happen in the coming months as a result of this.

Zelensky and Ukraine have been subjected to so much trauma and evil. 10 years of a russian hybrid invasion and terrorism, 3 years of a full scale genocidal war of conquest conducted by russia, entire peaceful cities leveled with the ground and their populations starved, frozen and shelled to death, and now they're being treated like this by what was until recently an ally, for no conceivable reason other than pure sadism and tyrrany. How much horror can a society take? Already in 2014, they had been through enough. This horrific betrayal is one that will live in infamy for centuries, if not milennia.

I live in a society whose culture is largely americanized, and we feel very close to the US. I studied abroad there and felt a stronger connection to american society than I did to my own. To see them become an enemy and sink into incomprehensible, sadistic evil like this is just impossible to process. More and more people in europe consider americans traitors, and there is a growing movement to boycott them. And it's tragic because I LIVED there, I wanted to move there permanently, I've spent so much time watching american youtubers, movies, tv shows, to the point where I know English better than I do my own language.

I feel a lot of anxiety about what's going to happen to Ukraine now, and whether European countries are going to respond to this with proper condemnations, sanctions and expelling american ambassadors, or whether we're just going to let Ukraine be treated like this while playing nice to the american regime.

I haven't watched the video of what just happened, but even what I've heard of it from the reddit thread fills me with rage and fear for ukraine and europe's future, and I wish I didn't have empathy because I keep wondering what it's got to be like for Ukrainians to watch this after all they've been through, and Zelensky after years of this nightmare. The pain, the sense of betrayal, the utter loss of faith in humanity, has got to be unbearable, and I can't stop tapping into this pain.
When Zelensky tried to respond to their bullying, Florida Man actually told him "you're not allowed to talk". They demanded respect...That THEY should be respected. Not the people who've been giving their lives to protect their freedom, independence and Europe as a whole. They talked down to him like a slavemaster to his slave. The evil and horror of this is impossible to take in, and I hope I never see the full video. It'll be worse than any horror movie.

It used to look like a bigger war was possible, but unlikely. Now, as a result of The US's betrayal and descent into sadistic evil, it's looking more and more like we're headed towards a continental war, if not another world war. With our friends and "allies" on the side of the enemy. 70% of them chose this. The very society I felt closer to than my own country. It's impossible to enjoy anything these days. They'll never be forgiven for this. How could this possibly end well?

I was planning on having a good meal and doing some chores around the house but this has completely ruined it. It's 20:55 and I haven't made dinner yet. I just feel this darkness in my chest. European leaders have started releasing statements saying we'll never betray Ukraine...but so far it's too weak of a response. This is a shitshow and I want to tune it all out tonight and enjoy myself with a good meal and some fun videos but I just can't switch this off so easily

I watched the clips, read the newspaper articles of what happened. Nothing but a fucking disgrace from that narcissitic sociopathic arsehole Trump and his feral lapdog Vance. They ambushed Zielensky and gave hime a political mugging in front of the cameras for all the world to see. Disgraceful but far from unexpected that current regime residing within the White House.

It's so plaintatively evident that The US has decided to allign itself with that rogue state Russia and so therefore more or less flushing the Transatlantic Alliance right down the pan. This is just nothing but a carve-up as Imperialistic ideals are being pursued whilst Human Rights and Democracy are being shat upon from a great height.

Don't want to devalue your feelings but for me the world has always been terrible I guess.

But I feel that a lot of the politics now (and maybe always) is about shadowplay and countries trying to appear stronger than they are.

I hope that the social media/fake news/hysteria era will pass. Maybe people will learn to trust less in bad information on the internet as people learned to do with television and the radio.

There are many people in the US who are mobilizing to resist and protest the illegal overreach of the US executive branch (President and his administration). The difficulty is that the other branches that are supposed to provide checks against in internal coup, namely the judiciary and legislature are bought and paid for by the mango Mussolini’s billionaire puppet masters.

The rest of his party has been undermining democracy since the 1980s if not longer. They have been tearing down public education, freedom of thought, and other factors that ground democracy for at least a generation. We have statistical proof that the total wealth of the citizenry has been concentrated in the hands of fewer and fewer people and the trend is accelerating. I think these are related, if not the whole point in the first place.

This is the fruit of their efforts. It is not the US people that are supporting this, except for the victims of decades of under-education and the right wing media fostering and nurturing their grievances, despite their owners being exactly the people responsible for their being left behind. So like in Russia, they have a hegemony that is propped up by propaganda and anti-intellectualism.

We have forgotten the lessons of WWII and it looks like we will have to repeat it. Also, the USA has more blood on her hands than she admits. The government of the rich has been engaged in colonialism to help corporations at the expense of citizens of poorer countries that have natural resources. The coup in Iran that led to the rise of authoritarianism there is an example, as are the history of United Fruit Company and the School of the Americas. This is not information that is readily available to us as Americans.

Gosh, sorry about the rant. I am frustrated with the pushing of division amongst the bottom 99% so that the ultra wealthy can get more power. I’m also sad that we in the US will suffer for the current administration’s antics, as will our allies. This is bullshit.

Dutch sketch about the current situation. Slightly NSFW, I guess.

Last night, the US once again threatened to invade an allied country (Greenland/Denmark). And they banned the UK from sharing american intelligence with Ukraine. They are so clearly controlled by the kremlin, there's no other way to interpret it. And not a single european country has summoned the american ambassador, or issued a single official condemnation. They're still tiptoeing around, playing nice with the regime while it works with russia to destroy us, talking like the US is still an ally and they can still save this.

It's one thing for our continent to now be under siege by two tyrants, russia and USA. It's another for our elected representatives to not acknowledge this and let them get away with their bullying. I know we're currently arming ourselves and they want to wait until we've further built up our militaries before they cut ties, but it makes me sick. After last weekend, I can't stomach placation.

It's like being back in school and seeing everyone continue to be friends and act nice with the bullies no matter how far they take things against their victims

So am I. Just hearing that the plane that went down in India had the fuel supply cut off on purpose by one of the pilots. In Idaho a young man deliberately started a forest fire, so fire fighters would come and he could shoot and kill them. They still have found no sign of the Washington State father who killed his three daughters. Trump is putting huge tariffs on countries we trade with. This is likely to raise costs on all kinds of goods, kick off inflation, and damage relationships between countries. Putin continues to attack Ukraine. Israel and Hamas are still going at each other. The Huthies are shelling ships in the Red Sea. Flash flooding is decimating neighborhoods and killing many. Heat is causing massive forest fires. Such a sick world we are living in.

There was one case in the Ukraine where a boy got killed from a shelling explosion, and his brother was so desperately hungry that he ate his brother's dead body. That's right, cannibalism. It was either that or die from starvation.
