need some advice about my former residence...

my former landlord has not sent my my security deposit, and its been way over a month now... ive left 2 messages, spoke with the manager of my former apartment complex. he said they sent the checkss out last week... well its saturday and still nothing... why in the absolute hell are my fellow Americans such greedy scumbags... this lady and her husband said to my face, we hate to lose one of our best tennants... well i am certainly not being treated like one... so what should i do? call a lawyer and go that route?

Depending on the state that you are in if security deposit is not refunded within a certain time frame(e.g. 14 days), the landlord forfeits any legal obligation to withhold ANY amount of security deposit.

Additionally, under Fair Housing Act, you may be entitled to additional compensation.
So before cashing the check make a copy of it.

Also, if you don’t receive it by Monday, I would send an email with move out date and date of all phone calls and briefly state verbal communication you had. Also include dates of any phone calls where you left a message.

Contact Fair Housing asap.
While they cannot give you legal advice or advise you on What to do but they can inform you of your rights.
