Liberal states like California and New York tend to be easier to get disability benefits for mental health issues

Liberal states aka blue states like California and New York tend to be easier to get disability benefits for mental health issues even Massatouchetes and New Jersey too. Red states such as Texas, Alabama, Florida and Indiana tend to be harder to get disability benefits for mental health issues. I talked to my psychtrist in Ontario Canada and she said I qualify for disability benefit based on my anxiety, depression and low iq aka MID for being in special Ed class and having multiple hospital visits. I’m also in the process of getting diagnosed with autism soon. My sister got approved for disability benefits first time for borderline personality disorder and bipolar because their is no medicine for borderline personality disorder since it’s a personality disorder and only medicine for her bipolar. In Canada you can work while on disability benefits as long it’s part time like around 30 hrs a week unlike USA.

I’m on disability for bipolar disorder, ptsd, and panic disorder.

I live in one of the “liberal” states you mentioned, and it still took almost 4 years and documentation from multiple doctors to get approved.

I don’t tell people I wasn’t approved because of the stroke (that happened after, but they just assume) because that way they don’t question what really isn’t their business.

Sorry to hear that. I’m 32 and will work as long as I can until I have 30 years left of retirement. My sister will have to depend on her disability benefits and won’t be able to work with bipolar and borderline personality disorder even though she takes meds for only bipolar. I only take meds for depression and anxiety. I don’t have any meds for my low iq aka mild intellectual disability. I used to be on meds for my alcoholism but not anymore. I’m getting tested for autism in September and there is no meds for autism just like there is no meds for personality disorders.

I was on SSI for mental health for about 8 years. I got on it while living in San Francisco, and I had a much easier time getting on than a lot of other people I hear about. I got approved on my first try, though I've heard a lot of, if not most, people in the US get denied at least once before getting on. I think I just was lucky to have a lot of good documentation from doctors. But I've been working full time for a few years, so I'm not getting it anymore.

Yep conservative states deny disability benefits the most for mental health issues. Even there are plenty of people in New York on disability benefits for mental health issues
