Tips to cure insomnia

Does anyone have any tips to sleep early at night? I've been sleeping at around 4 am and would wake up at 12-2pm almost everyday, and I feel like a waste of time and space every time that happens. Do I even need to go to a doctor for this? Thank you.

Hello! I also am suffering from a bad bout of insomnia at the moment, but I’m learning from my doctor that insomnia looks very different for different people, and occurs for lots of reasons.

Are you going to bed at 4 AM and falling right asleep, or are you getting in bed earlier and can’t fall asleep until around 4 AM?

I'd be in bed at maybe around 12-1am, then can't fall asleep until around 4am

You and I are in a similar situation- one thing I've been trying to that helps me is when I can't sleep, I get up out of bed to sit in a comfy chair and watch a show I do not care about at all lol, just something old or informational or kinda boring. For me the longer I lay there trying to sleep and begging my brain to shut up just makes it worse.

Do you use melatonin? Or nap at all during the day?

I tried melatonin in 2020, but from what I remember it didn't work for me. What did work for me was some paracetamol that I took when I had a fever lol, but I don't want to take it when I'm not sick (even though sometimes it's tempting). Also, I rarely take naps

If you like your doctor and have a doctor, maybe a chat about insomnia would be helpful. I’m actually seeing a doctor today for the first time in a really long time and I’m hoping to get some insomnia help/advice myself, if I learn anything I’ll pass it along :)

I know it’s way easier said than done but right now I am just trying to tell myself that it will be okay and good sleep will find me again someday.

Thank you! Right now I'm trying not to psych myself out because I'm telling myself I'm going to tell her everything that's going on and she's going to say "wow you're a mess you need more help than I can give you/go somewhere else." Doctors have not been kind to me lately, and that's a SEVERE understatement. But I won't know unless I try (at least that's what I'm holding onto right now).

Fingers crossed you'll be able to get some good quality sleep tonight, or soon. I've also been trying breathing exercises...but it turns out you still think while you breathe LOL.

Good luck then! Yeah I remember when I tried to go to a doctor, and she just gave me some advices that didn't really work on me... I was expecting her to get me some medicine but she didn't want to give me it. And I was like, what a waste of time and money lol. But that's fine I guess, you tried doc, you really tried. Haha.

My tips for sleeping:
stop snacking/eating by 7, turn off all the house lights at 9, get used to being in bed by 10 or 10:15, and turn off all electronic devices at that time.
Don't drink alcohol or sweetened drinks. They're the antithesis of what a body needs for a good sleep.
Splurge on a really good mattress, pillows and bedclothes, so that you love the feel of it when you get into bed.
Read the book Why We Sleep, if you like reading.

I had a sleep regimen like that once upon a time.
To fall asleep earlier, you have to be tired physically, so do exercise.
Don't eat sweets during the day because it causes an increase in insulin, which in large amounts makes you feel sleepy.
It is better to eat something sweet along with L.Reuteri based yogurt before going to bed - it helps you fall asleep.
After that, I brush my teeth and go to bed. Sometimes I turn on a quiet movie that I fall asleep to. Sometimes I meditate and fall asleep too.
This is from my experience.

I have tried natural remedies like

Ceylon cinnamon sprinkled on a banana 🍌 before bedtime

Drinking hot green tea 🍵 with whole cloves before bedtime

Now those things did not help me fall asleep immediately but did result in more peaceful sleep

Only thing is consistency. If you get into a routine schedule, it regulates your circadian rhythm.

Turn on Blue Light filter and dark mode on electronic devices if you’re using them while preparing for sleep

Hope you find a solution suitable for you

Rain coming down on a tin roof is the best, but, yes, rain....calming and relaxing for myself for certain. :)
Unless, of course, your roof leaks. :D
When I was a child, I often visited my grandfather's village. The porch of his house had a tin roof. And when it rained, it leaked.
It was funny to see all the pots and bowls standing there, catching the drops :D
When you wrote that, I remembered all of this, and it made me smile :)
Thanks
