My therapist made a really good point in this week's session. I'd never considered that it's a privilege to not have your entire existence politicised, but it absolutely is. Ironically it's the people who have this privilege that politicise our lives, and complain they're being targeted by feminism or "the great replacement." They flaunt their privilege, fantasise about lacking it, and deny us that same privilege. It's a ridiculous state of affairs. So, just because i lack that privilege doesn't mean i shouldn't be allowed to live my life as if i had it.
Maybe other people do want my entire life to be political, but i don't. That's not to say i want to stop caring about it entirely, obviously, because it still matters. But i'm saying there should be a space in my life for politics, and it should not be my entire life, just because certain people want it to be. It's such a liberating thought, because it makes me realise i don't need to spend every second of my life considering the political landscape, and the political ramifications of my actions. I can give myself permission to just exist, and to take up space, and to not apologise for it.
So i suppose i just wanted to share that thought with other marginalised people who might also need to hear it. You are not a political tool. You are not some robot of political goals. You are a person, with thoughts, and feelings, and rights. And one of those rights should be the right to just let yourself be whoever you are, unapologetically and uncompromising. Fuck the haters. Fuck what they say about you. They're the ones causing the problem, they're the ones making your life political, not you. You just be you, because i can guarantee that's the best thing you can be.
