Dealing with debt and it's hard . . .

I went back to school many years ago. My husband and I have an autistic son and I thought it would be a good job to go back to school so I could work and get enough money to pay for any care our son would need. I don't trust the safety net to be there for him. My son can take care of himself but will always need some supervision.

I picked court reporting because it sounded interesting.

Well, it backfired. I spend six years trying to learn how to work the machine and I could not get past 120 WPM. Qualifying speeds are 225 WPM.

For nearly the last decade, I've been working to pay back student loans by doing legal proofreading. A Facebook friend hooked me up with my now-boss. I proof legal depositions for civil cases and I work from home. I'm grateful for work but I've gotten very tired of it lately. Plus, we hit a rough patch this year - property taxes went WAY up - and I had to change my debit card TWICE because of unauthorized charges. So I put purchases on the credit card . . . and between that and the interest charge, we ran up a big credit card bill that we're still working on paying back.

I've posted in other areas that I'm dealing with past abuse (bullying and spiritual abuse) and also chronic health issues. I'm also in the USA and if anyone has been keeping up with current events, you know we had a "bomb" dropped on us in this last election two days ago. I'm still reeling and that's actually what brought me to the forum.
